What is
SUNLIGHT ON CHROME
all about?
The Sunlight on Chrome initiative was started in January of 2020, soon after the passing of Neil Peart (drummer of the band Rush).
---
The purpose of this website is to spread awareness of charitable events to raise funds to fight brain cancer (Glioblastoma) in honor of Neil Peart, former drummer of the band Rush.
As much as initial efforts (as described below) were focused on motorcycle charity rides, as Neil was such an avid motorcyclist, the effort has pivoted to include any activity that honors Neil and his memory.
What fellows is the original text (posted on various social media) from the launching of the Sunlight on Chrome (SoC) effort on 1/17/2020.

His love of riding!
As mentioned elsewhere on this website, I was inspired to ride motorcycles as a result of reading Neil Peart's stories recounting his various motorcycle adventures (and often misadventures)! It would be difficult to read any of his motorcycle-centric books (of which there are many) and not come away with the great sense that he REALLY LOVED RIDING HIS MOTORCYCLE! At the below listed page, we review a few aspects of Neil Peart's love of motorcycle riding as well as provide a link to a rather extensive project we have embarked on:
The Ghost Rider "Ride-along"
where we provide GPS routing and pictures from venues that NEP mentioned in his book, Ghost Rider!

His love of the outdoors!
This picture of Neil, likely taken along the CA coast (and sadly, likely while battling cancer) is a prime example of his determination to enjoy everyday!

A tragic loss
On Friday 1/10/2020 many were shocked to learn of the death of Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist from the band Rush. His tragic death (on 1/7/2020) came ~4 years after the band had retired (playing the last show of their R40 tour on 8/1/2015). What adds to the tragedy is that he was diagnosed with brain cancer (Glioblastoma) only ~6 months after playing that last show.

An inspiration to many!
While many people knew that he was the drummer as well as lyricist for the band Rush, others knew that he was an avid motorcyclist!
While his drumming may have inspired others to drum...
And his prose (in lyrics or books) may have inspired others to write.…
...His recounting of his motorcycle adventures inspired others to RIDE!

Sunlight on Chrome
is our THANK YOU to NEP!
In honor of that, and for the hundreds of thousands of miles of enjoyment that that riding, spurred on by his writings, have given to others, we thank him - in absentia.
And a small part of that "Thank you" is the effort as described herein.
Sunlight On Chrome is a Motorcycle Charity Ride* to raise money to help cure Glioblastoma. This was the type of cancer that took him from his family and friends. It is our hope that his memory will live on through efforts such as this to help others in need.

Rest In Peace Neil.
